Mayor Mackle Says Busy Term Ahead For Council
Following the confirmation of the results of the Local Election, Kaikōura District Councillors were officially sworn in at Council Chambers on 26 October.
Mayor Craig Mackle returns for his second term as Mayor, and in his first meeting of the new triennium re-appointed Julie Howden as Deputy Mayor for a second term.
In his welcome speech Mayor Mackle said, “We have an extremely busy term coming up with all the projects going on: Link Pathway, Wakatu Quay, South Bay Harbour Project and of course our Long-Term Plan and some lovely reforms.”
Also sworn in were re-elected Councillors Tony Blunt, Lisa Bond, Vicki Gulleford and Robby Roche. They are joined by two newly elected Councillors who are making a return to Council - former Mayor Kevin Heays and former Deputy Mayor John Diver.
Mayor Mackle also acknowledged Kaikōura’s No.1 spot in the voter turnout league table with 62.02% and went on to say, “the results show me that we are on the right track in the eyes of the greater majority, but we should never stop listening to all as there is always something new to be heard.”
