Kaikōura District Council Election Results Declared
The final results for the Kaikōura District Council 2022 Triennial Elections have been received and the confirmed Mayor and Councillors for the next three years are:
Elected Mayor: MACKLE, Craig (1,272)
Elected Council at Large (votes received)
GULLEFORD, Vicki (1,154)
HOWDEN, Julie (1,139)
BLUNT, Tony (1,107)
HEAYS, Kevin (1,094)
DIVER, John Gregory (966)
ROCHE, Robby (884)
BOND, Lisa Anne (877)
With three candidates for Mayor and 14 for Council at Large there was healthy competition for the 8 vacancies, which was a great result for local democracy.
The voting turnout was 62.02%, topping the Electionnz voter turnout league table for New Zealand and just surpassing the 2019 turnout of 61.37%. Community participation in local politics continues to be consistently high and well surpasses the national turnout of 41.7%.
The newly elected Mayor and Councillors will be sworn in at Council chambers on 26 October and the first meeting will sit on 30 November.
