Finally, some good weather after what was the wettest February I’ve seen in Kaikōura in ages!

Last Saturday (19th Feb) I was part of the official opening for the Kaikōura Motor Home Association Camp. After 5 attempts since December 2019 due to covid we got there!

Covid restrictions canned the original Kaikōura Pig & Stag Hunt too but some people felt the event needed to go on for charities sake! So, it’s back and we’ve been overwhelmed with generosity from sponsors. We are talking spot prizes like thermal night vision, hunting flights, set of 4 new mud tires and plus big prize money! Huge shout out to all the local businesses and individuals that have donated.

All proceeds are going to Kaikōura St Johns and to drum up entries we’ve made it you don’t even have to hunt to win the spot prizes - just enter the competition! Look us up on Facebook or pop into Hunting & Fishing Kaikōura, Farmlands Kaikōura, Waiau Dairy or Sefton Garage-North Canterbury for entry forms.

Kaikōura Seaweek is kicking off Saturday 5th March 10am at the Old Wharf with activities such as snorkeling, a traditional cooking show, documentary nights and a BBQ after a beach clean-up all on offer to our community for free! Keep your eyes open for more information.

Just like the game of thrones promise that winter is coming - so is Covid to our town.

Kaikōura Health are well prepared to deal with those that require emergency care due to covid however, most people will just be able to self-isolate and fully recover at home.

You can be prepared by having a whānau plan for your home or farm if your entire household needs to stay home. How you will get food and supplies and who will look after those that are dependent on you if you must go to hospital including animals are just a few of the things to consider.

Stay safe, be kind and if you know of a vulnerable person – make sure you have a non-contact way to check on them.
