Cyclone Gabrielle Update 16 Feb - Midday
UPDATE 16 FEBRUARY - MIDDAY
Advice re: Donations to the North Island
A relief to watch Cyclone Gabrielle moving away from our shores on the weather maps, our thoughts are with everyone in the North Island who are dealing with the devastating impact and will be for some time. Please see our Facebook post containing advice from the teams on the ground on the North Island on how you can best help. They are requesting that you please do not send food, blankets or donated goods.
Local Update
Forecasts for our district predict that the rain will move away this afternoon. Our teams were monitoring through the night and there were no reported issues. Some rivers will run high and strong for a few days, but nothing new to report on yesterday.
There may still be a risk of some land slips causing hazards on roads, so drive cautiously and to the conditions. We are looking forward to the arrival of some good weather tomorrow for the weekend.
With this weather event, and the little shake last night it’s a good reminder to review your readiness for an emergency event. Do you have a grab bag? Food and water supplies, batteries and a radio? All things to potentially think about. Advice on readiness for an emergency can be found at https://getready.govt.nz/
You will be able to find future updates on any local hazards on Kaikōura District Council Facebook and our our latest news and home page on our website.
