ORANGE RAINFALL WARNING WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH TO THURSDAY MORNING & STRONG WINDS
Forecasts for this afternoon include an Orange Rainfall Warning for later this afternoon and overnight, along with predicted gale force winds. Greater rainfall levels are expected in the higher ranges. This rainfall is on top of what has already fallen so some rivers will run high and strong for a few days.
Please remind yourself of the local hazard information at the bottom of this post, our previous advice remains the same in relation to moving your livestock and how to prepare for heavy rain and strong winds. BE PREPARED FOR HEAVY RAIN
An orange warning is in place so rainfall is expected to be heavy. Our road and water services teams will be continuously monitoring.
• Move livestock from paddocks that are at risk from heavy rain
• Clear building gutters and drainage of leaves and debris to ensure good drainage
• Be aware of the potential of land slips on roads during and after the rain has passed. Do not travel unless necessary. Drive slowly in case of unanticipated hazards.
• Ensure you have adequate supplies of food and water.
BE PREPARED FOR HIGH WINDS
• In case there are any power outages have your torches ready and check your batteries.
• Prepare your property & livestock for high winds
• Tie down your trampoline and other heavy outdoor objects. Remove anything that could become a damaging missile.
Check in on your neighbours and call emergency services on 111 if you see anything that is potentially life threatening. Call Council to report less urgent road, water services or land slips issues on 03 319 5026 (follow the prompts after hours).
We advise everyone to exercise caution around the sea, rivers and fords. We are continuing to monitor the situation and are not going to be complacent as we continue to feel the effects of this storm. We will keep you updated on our Facebook and web page latest news.
REMINDER - INFORMATION ON LOCAL HAZARDS
• PUHI PUHI ROAD and BLUE DUCK ROAD– risk of road closure due to slips. Residents on these roads are advised to check your emergency bag and ensure you have a supply of food and water for up to 3 days available in case this worst case scenario should happen. Puhi Puhi DOC campsite has been closed as a precaution.
• INLAND ROAD – Linton Creek Bridge is currently still open. The rain so far has brought substantial amounts of shingle down the creek and the bridge may become impassable later.
• CLARENCE VALLEY SOUTHERN ACCESS (Wharekiri) will remain closed until we can clear the ford.
• POSTMANS ROAD –Luke Creek (between McInnes Road and Mt Fyffe Road) and Waimangarara Fords remains impassable and the road is still closed at these points.
• KINCAID WATER SCHEME remains shut down due to heavy rain. At this stage we expect that users will need to conserve water until at least Saturday, possibly Sunday. Users should contact us if they have concerns about their water levels.
