Update: Cyclone Gabrielle 15 Feb @ 08.30am
Our roads and water services contractors were monitoring the network throughout the night. There were no reports of any major incidents during the night. SH1 remains open. However, as expected the fords on Postmans Road are now impassable, and we may get more reports of surface water and slips on other roads later. We advise everyone to slow down on roads in case of unanticipated hazards. We will let you know on our Facebook and website latest news if there are further road closures.
We were fortunate to have moderate levels of rain overnight, and whilst there were strong winds in the District they did not reach gale force. We did see high rainfall levels in the higher ranges, this was as forecasted and expected for the topography and not a cause for concern at this time. Some rivers may run high and strong for a few days.
We advise everyone to exercise caution around the sea, rivers and fords. We are continuing to monitor the situation and are not going to be complacent as we continue to feel the effects of this storm. • CLARENCE VALLEY SOUTHERN ACCESS (Wharekiri) was closed on Monday night and will remain closed until we can clear the ford.
• POSTMANS ROAD – As expected Luke Creek (between McInnes Road and Mt Fyffe Road) and Waimangarara Fords are impassable and the road is now closed at these points.
• INLAND ROAD – Linton Creek Bridge is currently still passable, but may become impassable later.
• KINCAID WATER SCHEME has shut down due to heavy rain. At this stage we expect that users will need to conserve water until at least Saturday, possibly Sunday. Users should contact us if they have concerns about their water levels can call us on 03 319 5026.
