South Bay Forest Harvest Update
Logging of South bay Forest by Tasman Forestry will fully commence Monday 11th November.
PREPARITORY WORK STARTS TODAY.
The forest is closed from today and the cycle track is closed from Monday 11th November.
Equipment has been moved to the site and a skid/loading area has been created.
It is paramount for people’s safety, that there be no public access to the forest site. Please do not let children play in the forest or the surrounding areas for the duration of the harvest as even between felling hours and activities, there are significant hazards present.
The forest and the cycle track through it will be closed to the public during harvesting and it is essential that this closure is respected, as significant hazards are associated with both the active harvesting operations (falling trees and heavy vehicle movements) and the presence of logs and other fallen timber on the site.
This is expected to be until Christmas. Cyclists will need to use the shoulder of SH1 from opposite the Caves restaurant as far as the Kowhai entrance back to the cycle trail.
