Wakatu Quay Road Works by Downer to Commence

WHY IS THIS WORK HAPPENING AND WHO IS DOING IT?

As part of the Wakatu Quay development, the Canterbury Regional Construction Team from Downer has been contracted to deliver roading upgrades to Wakatu Quay and Lower Ward Street, as well as footpath upgrades on Avoca Street.

WHAT WORK IS HAPPENING?

Work includes excavating existing road surfaces and footpaths, installation of new drains and pipes underground, construction of new kerbs, kerb buildouts, footpaths, road surfaces, retaining walls and a new pedestrian crossing, as well as landscaping.

There will be temporary closures and traffic changes throughout the construction

WHEN IS THIS WORK HAPPENING?

Downer will be commencing work on Monday 17th March with a programme end date of Monday 23rd June.

Work will be carried out in four phases, commencing each stage at the below programme dates:

- Phase 1 – Wakatu Quay - commencing Monday 17th March

- Phase 2 – Lower Ward Street - commencing Monday 7th April

- Phase 3 – Wakatu Quay from Avoca Street - commencing Thursday 1st May

- Phase 4 – Avoca Street footpath - commencing Friday 6th June
