Local Waters Done Well - Consultation on Water Services Delivery
What is Local Waters Done Well?
Central government has passed legislation which requires Councils to identify and consult on options for the future delivery of water services. It replaces the previous government’s Three Water proposals and gives councils flexibility to determine for themselves the most suitable arrangement for the delivery of water services (drinking water, wastewater and stormwater – the “three waters”) for their communities.
Consultation opens 20 March, closes 23rd April 2025 and Council is seeking your views on one preferred option and two alternative options:
1) Providing water services through a jointly established water services council controlled organisation (WSCCO) owned by the Kaikōura District Council and Hurunui District Council as shareholders. (Preferred option).
2) Providing water services through a newly established water services council controlled organisation (WSCCO) for which Kaikōura District Council. (Alternative option).
3) Providing water services through a financially ring-fenced in-house delivery unit of Council. (Alternative option).

All are welcome.
We are also holding an informal Q&A get together ''Supper by the Sea'', at The Memorial Gardens. This will be an opportunity to discuss the options with the Mayor, Councillors and KDS staff members over a relaxed cuppa and a bite to eat.
